The Seacoast United Pirates 12U Navy team has plenty of reason to celebrate their season, as they capped off their final weekend with an 8-6 win over the Vikings Baseball to secure the Division II Elite Baseball League title.
Starting pitcher, Zach Ferris (5 IP, 4 ER, 3 H, 3 K, 0 BB) set the tone early with his command of the strike zone, forcing swings and allowing his defense to work behind him. An aggressive Vikings Baseball team put pressure on the Pirates, taking an early 3-2 lead with timely contact at the plate and skill on the base paths.
The Pirates offense was up for the challenge and exploded in the 5th inning for 5 runs. The Pirates bats were led by Liam Walsh (1-2, 2B, BB, 2 RBIs), Zac Roffman (1-2, 2B, BB 2 RBIs), Jack Lacouture (2-3, RBI), and Gavin Bond (2-3, RBI).
Relief pitcher, Jake Tobin (2 IP, 2 ER, 4 H, 3 K, 2 BB), entered the game in the bottom of the 6th inning and threw the final two frames, securing the championship with a game ending strikeout.
“I could not be happier for this group of players and coaches” said Scott Dubben, the Director of Baseball for Seacoast United. “They set the tone early in the year that they were going to be a very competitive team and they never let up. This is our first league championship and a testament to their hard work and determination to compete and develop their skills. This is a big step forward for our program and I am very proud of them.”
12U Navy entered the Division II playoffs as the 5th seed and accumulated wins against Rivals Baseball 18-7; #1 seeded Junior Gulls, 9-5; and a semifinal victory against Rivals Baseball, 16-1. The championship win against Vikings Baseball capped off 12 Navy's tenth straight victory and the first league championship in the history of the Seacoast United Pirates Baseball Club.
