Pirates South Win 1st Annual Seacoast United Baseball 10U Spring Swing Tournament

April 20, 2015

This past weekend, Seacoast United Pirates Baseball Club hosted their first tournament in Epping, NH. The tournament had representation from 3 Seacoast United Pirates 10u teams (North, South, West), NH Bobcats (Manchester, NH), Akadema Razorbacks (Holbrook, MA), Minutemen Baseball (Waltham, MA), East Cobb Expos (Beverly, MA) and the Jr. Spinners (Lowell, MA).

The SU Pirates South went 5-0 on the weekend to capture the championship with a 9-5 win over SU Pirates West in the first annual Seacoast United 10U Spring Swing. The Pirates collected wins against Minutemen Baseball, Akadema Razorbacks, NH Bobcats, SU Pirates North, and SU Pirates West with 54 runs scored and 15 runs allowed.
No. 2 seed SU Pirates South defeated the No. 3 seed NH Bobcats, 12-2 in 5 innings, to advance to the championship game, while No. 4 seed SU Pirates West upset the No. 1 seed East Cobb New England Expos in the other semifinal game by the score of 10-1.
In the championship game, SU Pirates South jumped out to a 2-0 lead in the bottom of the 1st with runs by Jake Fredericks (2-2, 1B, 3-run HR) and Zach Brassill (2-2, 1B, 3B). A big offensive 3rd inning lead by Jason Pinsonnault (1-2), Steven Lawton (1-2), Owen Bateman (2-3, 12-16 in 5 games), and Owen Pallatroni (1-3) set up a Jake Fredericks 3-run HR to left-center, putting them up 7-1. Two more runs on an AJ Politano (1-2, 1B) single made it 9-1.
Fredericks, SU Pirates South starting pitcher, was very effective with first pitch strikes and kept SU Pirates West hitters off balance. His battery mate Kevin Tilley caught all five games in the tournament and was the team's defensive MVP.
