AMESBURY, MA - The Seacoast United Phantoms won their first game of the season against the
Western Mass Pioneers this Saturday May 13th. The win kicked off the Phantoms 2017 USL PDL
season and took place in their new home venue, the Seacoast United Sports Park.
The game started slow with both teams refusing to give anything away, but that all changed in
the 24th minute of the game. The Phantoms took control with a goal from Donnett Sackie.
Nodded in on a pass from Audi Jepson, the goal put the Phantoms up 1-0.
Tension rose in the following minutes of the first half. A handball in the box was waved off by
the referees as Phantom Rok Tanseki was striking towards goal. In the 9th minute, Pioneers' Pat Boucher and
Phantoms' Terence Carter were yellow carded as a confrontation occurred on the sidelines.
During the second half, the Pioneers almost tied it up with some close shots, but the Phantoms
hung in and scored again with a shot from Connor Alba, putting them up 2-0. With 15 minutes
left the Phantoms were close to going up by 3, but an off sides prevented them from increasing
Despite the Pioneers best efforts in the final minutes of the second half, the Phantoms sealed
the game and came away with their first victory of the season. The Phantoms are set to take on
the Westchester Flames away next Saturday.
