|Elise Amioka put the Phantoms on the scoreboard first in the 28th minute of today's match vs. Long Island Fury.
Visitors Long Island Fury battled back twice to equalize, and finished even with the Seacoast United Phantom’s on Sunday in a 2-2 final.
The Phantoms struggled early on, finding difficulty keeping possession due to a combination of Fury pressure and misplaced passes. It wasn’t until the 20th minute when the Phantoms created a quality look at goal. Outside midfielder Elise Amioka attacked the open space on the dribble, taking on a Fury defender before pushing the shot just wide of the far post.
Eight minutes later, Amioka capitalized on the receiving end of a cross from the left side of the field, scoring on a header that beat the Fury goalkeeper diving to her right side. With the 1-0 advantage, Seacoast United settled down and took the lead into halftime.
The Phantoms started the 2nd half again finding it difficult at times to deal with the Fury pressure. In the 52nd minute, Fury broke through the Phantoms back line when speedy striker Catherine Greer tied the game at 1-1.
The Phantoms responded in the 62nd minute on a goal from newcomer Maria Delahunt.
Long Island would have the last word however, continuing to press and make good use of opportunities they created. In the 86th minute, again they equalized on a goal from midfielder Emma Mullo, earning a well deserved point especially considering their short roster on the weekend.
The Seacoast United Phantoms remain in first place in the Northeast Atlantic North division of the WPSL with a record of 4-0-3, four points ahead of Aztec MA. The Phantoms tied Aztec on Saturday evening 1-1, coming from behind to level the score on a goal by striker Rachel Hill.
The next match for the WPSL Phantoms is Wednesday June 27th away at New England Mutiny, who currently sit in 4th place within the division at 1-2-1.
