Phantoms Complete Weekend Sweep; Tied for Division Lead

July 6th, 2014

MONTREAL, CANADA - Heading into the weekend, the Seacoast United Phantoms needed two big wins vs. Vermont and Montreal to keep pace with the division leaders CFC Azul.  Two wins, and two shutouts to boot, are just what they got.

Behind a defense who has allowed a league-best 5 goals this season, goalkeeper Dom DiMaggio also stepped up in making several quality saves in keeping two clean sheets on the road trip.

Coming off the 1-0 victory in St. Alban's VT vs. Vermont Voltage, the Phantoms would be without leading scorer Anthony Grant for Sunday's match in Montreal.  The offense would look to Terrence Carter, who stepped up with a goal in the 29th minute to give the visitors the lead.  After the halftime break, midfielder Alex Ryan doubled the lead with his goal in the 50th minute, which would hold for the 2-0 victory.  With the goalkeeper off his line, Ryan lobbed his shot over the keeper's head from 40 yards out.

With a sweep of their weekend series, the Seacoast United Phantoms are now tied for the PDL's Northeast Division lead with CFC Azul (CT).  Both teams have identical records of 8-1-2 and 26 points with 3 games left to play.  CFC's remaining games all take place at home, while 2 of 3 remaining games are on the road for the Phantoms.

The final home game for the Seacoast United Phantoms takes place on Thursday, July 17th at Portsmouth High School when they host Real Boston Rams.  Kickoff is scheduled for 7pm.

On that evening, the Phantoms encourage fans to celebrate the Spirit of Behaylu Barry, a 13-yr old boy from Stratham who is recovering from a bone marrow transplant after being diagnosed with Severe Aplastic Anemia this spring.  A portion of all gate receipts will be donated to Behaylu Barry/Annie's Angels Memorial Fund, who are fundraising for Behaylu's family.
