Phantoms Home Opener Set for Thursday Night

HAMPTON, NH - The Seacoast United Phantoms open their home schedule on Thursday evening May 30th at 8pm when they host the Real Boston.  2013 marks the third season that the Phantoms will play their home games at Portsmouth High School.

The roster has several new faces this season, following the 2012 campaign that saw a number of key players miss significant time due to injury.  The squad is looking to be the strongest since the franchise came under the Seacoast United umbrella.  Both General Manager Jim Dedeus and head coach Iain Scott are enthusiastic about the new additions, which include players from successful collegiate programs such as Boston College, Northeastern University, and Bowdoin College.

Scott was particularly pleased with the recent 0-0 draw in the season opener May 18th away at division rival GPS Portland Phoenix in Maine.

“It is exciting to have players from further afield wanting to come to the Seacoast program," commented Scott.   "I have enjoyed working with this committed group and hopefully we will once again prove to be competitive at this level.”

Ten veterans return for the 2013 season, looking to set a good example for the new additions with their valuable experience in the league.  Three of the four starting defenders from a year ago return to the lineup this spring:  Brad Hilton (UNH Alumnus), Ryan Dunn (Boston College), and Jordan Thomas (UNH).  They will be joined by Simon Cox and Ambry Moss, both of Northeastern University.

The Phantoms have added two midfielders from the Seacoast United Mariners NPSL squad in Ben Brewster and Eddie Jones to compliment Robbie McLarney who battled injury for the majority of the 2012 season.

At striker, newcomer Philip Sandgren (Lindsey Wilson College) join Seacoast United US Development Academy alumni Stephen Palumbo (UNH) and Jimmy Petruccelli (Providence), and veteran Dylan George to provide a boost on the offensive end of the field.

Real Boston has already played three matches this season, with an earlier start to the schedule than most teams in the division.  After opening the season with a victory at home vs CFC Azul, the Rams dropped their last two games, conceding 3 goals in each match vs Vermont and Ottawa Fury.

The Phantoms are preparing for a busy schedule in June, with four of their 7 division matches during this timeframe taking place on the road.

At all Phantoms home games, admission is free for children under 18.  Adult tickets are $5 and are available at the gate.
