PORTSMOUTH, NH - The Seacoast United Phantoms opened their 2012 National Premier Soccer League (NPSL) schedule on Saturday evening, hosting FC New York under the lights at Portsmouth High School resulting in a 2-2 draw.
FC New York caused problems in the midfield for the majority of the first half, with Seacoast dropping back and allowing space up the middle for NY to create good attacking opportunities.
Seacoast United goalkeeper Giovanni Sinclair made a quality 1v1 save on NY striker Issa Hall midway through the half to keep the game scoreless. Sinclair came well off his line to save the shot with his feet, sprawling to his right side.
In the 39th minute, Phantoms outside midfielder Frankie Limus-Pena received a ball on the attack and beat his defender on the dribble before slotting a pass in behind the NY center back to teammate Christian Rodriguez. Rodriguez then carried the ball around the goalkeeper and calmly placed it into the net to give the home side a 1-0 lead.
It wouldn’t last long however, as FC New York found the equalizer in beating Sinclair low to the left just 3 minutes later to even the score heading into halftime.
Substitutions early in the 2nd half to counter FC New York’s attack included midfielders Robbie Palumbo, Luke Finkeilstein, and Jimmy Petruccelli.

The teams traded possession with play just about even until a Phantoms turnover led to shot from 30 yards out, which deflected badly off a defender, catching Sinclair diving the opposite way for a 2-1 FC New York lead.
Seacoast responded in the 73rd minute. A diagonal ball from left to right by Sean McDonald was brought down with one touch by Petruccelli and volleyed into the net from right hand side of 18 yd box to even the score.
The pace quickened for the final 15 minutes, but each team failed to find the elusive game winning goal.
The Seacoast United Phantoms (NPSL) are 0-0-1 on the young season, while FC New York are 0-1-1 and head to Maine on Sunday to face the Seacoast United Mariners in their inaugural game.
