The Seacoast United Phantoms and Boston Victory were even at 0-0 after 90 minutes of play at Veteran's Memorial Stadium in Quincy, MA on Saturday night in a PDL Northeast Division matchup. Both teams struggled to capitalize on any scoring opportunities in the first half, a result of squandered chances and good goalkeeping on each end of the field.
Phantoms goalkeeper Jon Dawson made a big save to keep the Victory scoreless, tipping the ball around the post just 5 minutes into the 2nd half. Seacoast United missed on a header by defender Jordan Thomas, and on a separate play, saw a Steven Palumbo cross headed downward by striker Charlie Roche directly at Victory goalkeeper Jordan Bar.
Palumbo caused trouble for Bar on other occasions as well, firing a shot in the 65th minute that sent the goalkeeper scrambling to cover the rebound, and again in the 75th minute on a well driven ball that forced Bar into an acrobatic parry.
A scary moment for Victory nearly gave the Phantoms the lead late in the match, when Bar beat Roche to a through-ball, however on the clearance, the ball deflected badly off of his own defender and missed the unprotected goal by just inches.
Earning another point with Saturday's result, the Phantoms sit at the top of the Northeast Division with a record of 2-0-2. Seacoast United returns home for their next match during Memorial Day weekend, hosting the Ottawa Fury on Saturday May 26th for a 7pm kickoff at Portsmouth High School.
