Comrie to Manage Phantoms for 2016 Season

April 25, 2016

HAMPTON, NH - The Seacoast United Phantoms are busy preparing for the start of their 2016 Premier Development League campaign as the season is set to kick off on Saturday, May 7th.

The Phantoms open the 2016 schedule by hosting division contender Western MA Pioneers at Portsmouth High School (7pm) before three consecutive road games taking them through the end of the month.

"We feel this could be the strongest team we have put together, we are excited to see what will develop this season," commented Seacoast United coaching director Iain Scott.

For the first time since the Phantoms franchise was rebranded under Seacoast United in 2011, the team will have a new face heading up the coaching staff on the sidelines.  Elvis Comrie will command the squad this season after taking over the managerial role from Iain Scott.

"I will remain heavily involved and continue to have an influence on the program behind the scenes," added Scott, who has lead the Phantoms to three division titles in his 5 years as head coach.

Scott will be busy this summer focusing on developing the next generation, taking a group of Seacoast United’s younger players to the UK this summer to play against professional academies.   This is the second year Seacoast United has offered such a unique opportunity to its players in partnership with Nike, Brighton & Hove Albion, and CMT learning.

Comrie has 20 years of experience coaching at the College of the Holy Cross (NCAA Division I), as well as 10 years as a US Soccer Development Academy scout for the East Coast region.  He has also coached within the Premier Development League prior to joining Seacoast, leading the Worcester Hydra (MA) to 3rd place in the Northeast Division in just their first year of operation.

The Phantoms will have their hands full once again this season with defending division champions GPS Portland Phoenix (ME), AC Connecticut, Western MA Pioneers, Westchester Flames (NY), and new additions to the division FA Euro New York, FC Boston (MA), Long Island Rough Riders (NY).

In addition to being a preseason favorite for the PDL’s Northeast Division, the Phantoms will compete in the US Open Cup for the 2nd consecutive year.  The opening round of US Soccer’s oldest tournament takes place on May 11th, with the Phantoms facing Southie FC (Revere MA, 8pm).
