Abel Perez hugs Anthony Grant (#5) after the two combined to give the Phantoms a 1-0 lead in the 7th minute.

MANCHESTER, NH - Under soaking, wind-driven rain, the Seacoast United Phantoms earned their 4th victory of the season this afternoon with a 3-0 win over AC Connecticut at Southern NH University.

The Phantoms improve to 4-0 overall in the PDL’s Northeast Division as goalkeeper Dominic DiMaggio notched his 3rd shutout while making 6 saves.  AC Connecticut falls to 1-2, with both losses coming at the hands of Seacoast United.

The home side came out strong, setting a fast-pace in the opening minutes which resulted in a few chances in the attacking end.   Midfielder Abel Perez sent a beautiful ball across the field to find striker Anthony Grant in full stride, beating CT goalkeeper Trevor Hackett to take the 1-0 lead in the 7th minute.

In the 17th minute as Grant was sent in again, but Hackett pulled off a brilliant double save to keep the score 1-0.  Grant would continue to terrorize the AC Connecticut defense, and broke through for his second goal in the 26th minute on a pass from Sofiane Tergou.

Looking for the hat trick, Grant had yet another opportunity just seconds before the half when he cut around the Hackett, but his path took him slightly wide and shot hit the side netting.  The 2014 PDL MVP Finalist now has 4 goals in 3 divisional games.

Midway through the 2nd half, the game would go up and down the field, but Seacoast United looked to be a bit more dangerous than the visitors. Midfielder Terence Carter would score the 3rd goal of the evening on a pass from Andre Simmond in the 83rd minute, beating Hackett low to the far side.

At times during the match, the players were faced with downpours and high winds, forcing slippery conditions.   Seacoast United would hold the lead in shots 12-6, while both goalkeepers finished with 6 saves.

The Phantoms return to Southern NH University this Wednesday, June 3rd when they host GPS Portland Phoenix for a  6:30pm kickoff.
