EXETER, NH - The Seacoast United WPSL team battled the New England Mutiny to a 1-1 draw on Saturday afternoon at Bill Ball Stadium.  The tie gives Seacoast a record of 0-2-1 on the season while the Mutiny move to 1-1-1 in the East-Northeast conference of the WPSL.

Kendra Spencer (Petosky, MI/Keene State) put Seacoast on the scoreboard first in the 36th minute, beating Mutiny goalkeeper Jackie Fede (5 saves) to a ball served into the area by right fullback Tricia Tufts (Exeter NH/East Carolina Univ.).  The goal was Spencer’s first of the season.

Holding a lead for the first time this season, Seacoast made a push early in the 2nd half.  Emma Clarke’s (York, ME/Boston University) shot in the 51st minute looked to be a sure goal when Fede recovered from a rebound and made the save.  Clarke had a very strong game in the midfield for Seacoast despite missing minutes in the 2nd half due to injury.

The New England Mutiny’s missed on a great opportunity when midfielder Danielle Dakin sent a cross just outside the 6 yd box to forward Mary Francis Monroe in the 65th minute.  Monroe’s header was blocked by Seacoast keeper Jill Schott (Windham, NH/Providence College), who had 9 saves on the afternoon.  The Mutiny finally capitalized 9 minutes later, scoring the equalizer in the 74th minute when forward Sarah Brochu’s strike beat Schott low to the left corner.  The goal was Brochu’s 3rd in as many games.

In the final 10 minutes, both teams went end to end looking for the elusive game winner.  The Mutiny held the overall advantage in shots, 18-9.  The teams will face each other again in just over a week when the Mutiny plays host to Seacoast United at 5pm on Sunday, June 13th at Chicopee Comprehensive High School (MA).

Seacoast United’s next home game will take place at Bowdoin College on Saturday June 19th vs. the Maine Tide.  Players participating in the Coastal Summer Challenge receive free admission to the match when wearing their game jerseys.  Tickets are available online at $5 for adults and $2 for youth (18 and under) or at the gate on game-day for $6/$3.  Seacoast United WPSL’s official homepage is www.seacoastunited.org/WPSL.
