Concordia University, located in Portland, Oregon recently named its new soccer field “Tuominen Yard” in memory of former student-athlete Jarkko Tuominen, and unveiled a plaque in his honor. Attending the event were Paul Willis of Seacoast United and Randy Kinzly of Nike and a board member of the Seacoast United Foundation.
Jarkko played his collegiate soccer for Concordia, earning NAIA All American recognition during three of his four seasons while amassing 50 goals, 60 assists, and 160 points over the course of his career.
Jarkko, who passed away in 2005 at the age of 37, was a long time friend and supporter of Seacoast United, and employee of Nike Soccer. The Club dedicated Field 3 at its Outdoor Complex in Epping after Jarkko on August 2nd, 2009, officially renaming it “Jark’s Field”. The Seacoast United Foundation hosts an annual college scholarship and memorial golf tournament each year in his name.
