Andrew Smith, a student-athlete at Merrimack Valley High School in Penacook and captain of the U17 Boys Seacoast United Lacrosse team, is taking the opportunity at this weekend’s 2011 Laxer’s Ball to round up support in the fight against breast cancer.   The Laxer’s Ball 7v7 Lacrosse Tournament will take place at the Seacoast United Outdoor Complex this coming Sunday, October 30th.

Andrew helped organize three teams for the upcoming tournament and is also running a fundraiser at the event to sell pink uniform accessories such as shorts, shoe laces, and more.  Every player who purchases pink uniform pieces will be making a donation to the American Cancer Society’s Making Strides Against Breast Cancer program.  All proceeds from the purchases will be donated to MSABC.  His teammates are excited to participate in the “Pink Out” and really rallied around the cause.

When asked about the support from his classmates and teammates, Andrew replied, “I’m proud of them.  All of our families help us in every way possible to step onto the field and enjoy the game of lacrosse.  How could we not take the opportunity that they provide and turn it into something bigger than ourselves?”

A motivated individual both on and off the field, this is Andrew’s fourth year of playing lacrosse year-round.  He has played for Seacoast United Lacrosse Club for the past two years, and began playing when he was 8 yrs old.  Now 16, he is using his favorite sport to help a bigger cause.  “A player’s name, a flashy logo, and brilliant colors make up a lacrosse uniform, but the most important message we’ll send is that we’re United… for a cure.”

Donations will be accepted the day of the event, or can be made online at https://www.cancer.org/Involved/Donate/index.
