Seacoast United U16 Girls Win Disney Showcase

January 4th, 2012

On the back of winning the Super Y National Championship less than a month ago, the Seacoast United U16 girls carried their confidence to the Disney Showcase and returned to New Hampshire with another championship trophy.  The Disney Showcase took place at the Wide World of Sports Complex in Orlando Florida from December 31, 2011-January 3rd 2012, hosting 300 teams within the U15-U17 age brackets and is noted as one of the biggest college showcases in the country.

In group play, Seacoast United went 3-0 in wins over Challenge SC (TX) 5-0, Michigan Rush 6-1, and Lee County Strikers (FL).  The match against Lee County found the girls down 0-2 at halftime, but battled back for a brilliant 2nd half and for a 3-2 victory.

In the U16 final, Seacoast faced Brentwood (TN) in a tight match, scoring in the 79th minute of the 80- minute game.  However, Brentwood did not give up and scored the equalizer in added time (83rd minute) to end regulation tied 1-1, forcing the game to penalty kicks.  Seacoast United goalkeeper Paige Laliberte was the hero in making three outstanding saves during the shootout to secure the win 3-2.

“The girls once again have proved themselves on a national stage against top competition and should be very proud of their performances,” commented head coach David Burgess.  “Not only did we win the tournament but played exceptionally well in doing so.”

Seacoast United’s U17 and U15 girls also participated in the Disney Showcase Tournament.  The U17’s coached by Ian Burgess went 2-1-1 and finished fourth in their age division.  The U15 girls finished the tournament 0-2-1 and head coach Chris Scott is excited about the team’s progress and strength of play displayed both at the Super Y Finals and at Disney.
