The leaves are starting to change, the temperature is cooling off and athletes all around the region are returning to the fields. Fall has finally arrived in New England and with that, a new season is underway for the Seacoast United Girls Academy and MLS Next programs.
Both programs kicked off their campaigns last weekend in Epping and after a successful start to the season, they are hoping to carry that momentum into this weekend when both sides hit the road.
The Seacoast United Girls Academy U13 & U14s are the only two Girls Academy teams in action this fall due to high school, but after coming off a 1-1 weekend against Oakwood in their opening matches, they will make the short trip down to Massachusetts to take on divisional rivals New England Football Club (NEFC).. Historically, NEFC has always given Seacoast a tough test so this weekend will be a big indicator on where the players stand this year.
“Saturday’s visit to NEFC is a really good opportunity for us to see how far our program has come in the space of a year.” says Girls Academy Director Chris Scott. “After last weekend’s performances, the players are full of confidence so this will be a great test.” Scott added.
The MLS Next teams will be hitting the road as well as they travel to New York to take on FC Westchester on Saturday and New York Soccer Club on Sunday. The boys opened up their 2021/22 campaign with a double header which saw them record 5 wins out of 6 from Sunday’s matches against fellow league opponent Met Oval.
“You couldn’t have asked for a better start to the year.” Said Boys Academy Director Peter Decker.
“We were really encouraged by the play and overall energy from our teams and we will look to continue that form down in New York.”
The U19 team won both of their matches last weekend with Alesandro Franciosa being the standout finding the back of the net on multiple occasions.
This weekend will be full of action for our Academy teams so be sure to follow Seacoast United’s official social media accounts for the latest updates this weekend.
