Seacoast United Columbus Day Invitational Rules & Guidelines
All tournament games will be played in accordance with the laws of the game unless modified herein.
I. Ball Size
U9, U10, U11, and U12 use size 4 ball.
U13-U15 use size 5 ball.
II. Game Length
U9 and U10 (7v7) = 2 x 25 min halves (5 min halftime)
U11, and U12 (9v9) = 2 x 30 min halves (5 min halftime)
U13-U15 (11v11) = 2 x 30 min halves (5 min halftime)
III. Rosters and Player Passes
A certified US Club or approved US Soccer Federation affiliate league roster shall be submitted to tournament officials prior to first game and may be checked by field marshals or referees prior to each game.
IV. Number of Players
Each U10/U11/12 team may be composed of a maximum of 15 players for this event and the rosters are limited to three guest players.
Each U13/14/15 team may be composed of a maximum of 20 players for this event and the rosters are limited to four guest players.
SUSC Event "Club Pass": Any club traveling to the SUSC event with more than one team may choose to move a player up for any game throughout the event. However, no player is allowed to play in more than four games at the event. The player and coach must have permission from their club director and subsequently from the tournament director before writing the player onto the game roster and presenting his/her pass of the same club during pre-game check-in.
Substitutions are unlimited but may only be made with the referee’s permission at the following times:
- Prior to throw-ins in your team’s favor and whenever the opposing team substitutes a player during this stoppage.
- Prior to a goal kick by either team.
- After a goal has been scored.
- When play has been stopped for injury.
- After halftime.
VI. Rule Changes Effective July 1, 2019
Games will be officiated using the new FIFA rules that became effective as of July 1, 2019.
Results will be recorded after every game by the SUSC field marshals and posted on the SUSC website via GotSoccer.
VIII. Tournament Format
All teams are guaranteed three games. After the three preliminary games take place on Saturday/Sunday, playoff seedings will be determined for playoff games/finals taking place on Sunday. No games will take place on Monday.
Points will be awarded for each game in accordance with the following:
- 6 points for a win
- 3 point for a tie
- 0 points for a loss
- One (1) point for each goal scored (max 3 per game). Losing team receives points also.
- One (1) point for each shutout.
**In the event of a forfeited game, the winner will be credited with a 3-0 win and awarded 10 points.
**A game abandoned by another team will result in the opposing team winning. The final score will be based on the score at the time of forfeit.
**Teams are allowed 5 minutes from game time to forfeit time.
**No points are awarded if neither team shows up.
Example: A 0-0 tie will be scored as 4 points for each team (3 points for a tie, 1 point for the shutout); a 4-2 game will be scored as 9 points for the winning team (6 points for the win, plus 3 points for goals) and 2 points to the losing team (for the 2 goals scored).
Tie Breaking Within a Bracket:
In the event of a points tie, places will be determined as follows:
A. Head to head
B. Goal Differential
C. Goals For (maximum of 4 per game)
D. Goals Against
E. Most Shutouts
F. Penalty kicks (if it gets to this stage, the time & location will be communicated to both teams by tournament staff)
A team will be allowed to play with a minimum of 7 players for an 11v11 match, 6 players for an 9v9 match, 5 players for a 7v7 match. If the team is not able to field a team after 10 minutes of the start time of the match, it will be considered a forfeit. The game score will be recorded as 3-0 in favor of the team that was present at the game time.
Playoff seedings will be determined differently in each bracket depending on number of teams entered. Playoff rounds will take place on Sunday afternoon or Monday morning (depending on schedules).
Divisions of 8 (2 brackets of 4): Each team receives 3 round robin/group play games. Top team from each bracket will meet in the final.
Divisions of 6 (2 brackets of 3): Each team receives 2 round robin/group play games. Top two teams from each bracket play cross-bracket semifinals (A1vB2 and B1vA2) while the 3rd seeded teams will meet in a consolation match. Winners of the semifinals meet in the final.
Divisions of 5 teams (1 bracket of 5): Teams will receive 2 games. 3rd game for each team will be determined by seeding based on the results of the first 2 games. #4 seed plays #5 seed in the consolation match. #1 overall seed will advance directly to the final. #2 seed plays #3 seed in the semifinal, with the winner facing the #1 seed in the final match.
Divisions of 4 teams (1 bracket of 4): Teams receive 3 round robin/group play games. Top two seeds will play each other in the final.
Playoffs - Overtime
If the score is tied at the end of regulation, teams will then proceed to penalty kicks to determine the winner. Teams will go 5 rounds, and if tied after 5 rounds, they will progress through single rounds until a winner is determined. Players taking the penalty kicks must be chosen from the 11 (U13-U15s) or 9 (U11-U12s) that are on the field at the end of the overtime period.
Dogs are not allowed at any facility/complex.
In the event of inclement weather, the Tournament Committee reserves the right to modify all tournament rules in order to safely and fairly end the tournament successfully.
There will be no refunds for teams withdrawing after the acceptance deadline date of September 24th, 2020. In the case of entire tournament cancellation due to inclement weather teams will receive a refund after incidental costs/administration fees occurred to that point have been deducted from entry fee.
