LANCASTER, PA - Seacoast United’s U12 boys’ and U12 girls’ teams finished in 3rd place at the Region I National Championship Series over the weekend after a great showing in preliminary bracket play and advancing to the playoff round on Monday, July 4th.
LANCASTER, PA - Seacoast United had two teams advance to the Semi-Final matches of the US Youth Soccer 2011 Region I National Championship Series on Monday, July 4th in Lancaster, Pennsylvania. The U12 Boys and U12 Girls both qualified for the playoff round after winning their brackets during preliminary games that took place Friday through Sunday. The girls finished their three preliminary matches with a record of 3-0. The boys finished with two wins and a tie, and earned the 1st place spot within their bracket after a marathon penalty kick shootout vs. Virginia that needed 14 rounds before a winner could be declared.
On Monday morning, the U12 girls kicked off at 8am against a very talented Richmond Kickers, who also went 3-0 within their group during bracket play. Seacoast United shut down the bigger, more physical team with strong defensive pressure early on, but Richmond broke through in the 19th minute on a beautiful shot from roughly 10 yards outside the box, and the 1-0 lead held as the teams entered halftime.
Seacoast pushed on in the 2nd half, trying to find a combination to score the equalizer and had a handful of quality chances on efforts from Seana Gosselin, Libby Underwood, and Lauren Triglione. The tying goal looked to be within reach until Richmond scored their 2nd of the game with just 10 minutes remaining.
Olivia Bamford, Kaidyn Ash, and Becca Jackson were noted for their outstanding play over the weekend. Seacoast United finished the 2011 spring season 3rd in Region I, New Hampshire State Cup Champions, Cape Cod Classic Memorial Day Tournament Champions, and top of the table in the U12 Girls New England Premiership.

The U12 Boys faced an opponent they had seen before in Nordic SC from Vermont. The two teams played each other in the playoffs of the Cape Cod Classic over Memorial Day weekend, where Seacoast won 3-2. In today’s match, Nordic jumped out to take a 1-0 lead in the 13th minute on an acrobatic redirect off a cross served in from the right hand side. The boys from Vermont struck again in the 24th minute and carried a 2-0 lead into halftime.
Three minutes into the 2nd half, Nordic extended their lead to 3-0. However, Seacoast United would answer with two goals in 7 minutes from Hunter Smith and Jacob Gould. Just minutes later, Seacoast had a fantastic chance to even the score at 3 but the shot was pushed wide of the post. Fighting fatigue and playing a man down, Nordic scored the final goal of the match on a 1v1, attacking from the left side for the 4-2 victory. Striker Jacob Gould and defenders Wes McIntosh and Garrett Lillie were core pieces to the team’s success over the weekend.
